Lab-Tested UV Protection.
Measured, not promised.

The fabric of our umbrellas is independently tested to the European standard EN 13758-1. The result: UPF 50+, the highest protection class for textiles.

UPF 400+

Even wet

Even soaked, far above the UPF 50 the standard requires.

Colors passed

Every color variant was measured individually in an independent lab.

Our test results

UPF 50+ is the highest value the standard allows on a label. We measured far more, dry and wet:

* Measured UPF (dry): per EN 13758-1 on the dry main fabric.    ** UPF tested wet: per AATCC TM183 on the soaked main fabric.

How we tested

For context: even the lowest measured value means that less than 0.25 % of effective UV radiation passes through the fabric.

What does UPF 50+ mean?

UPF stands for Ultraviolet Protection Factor. It is the textile counterpart to the SPF of your sunscreen: a fabric with UPF 50 lets only one fiftieth of UV radiation through, less than 2 percent. UPF 50+ is the highest rating a textile may carry under the standard.

The difference to sunscreen: an umbrella works instantly, never needs reapplying, and protects exactly where creaming up is a hassle. Hands, hairline, neckline.

UV-B radiation

Causes sunburn and cell damage. In every test, Sunbarry fabrics block at least 99.7 % of UV-B radiation.

UV-A radiation

Penetrates deeper into the skin and ages it prematurely. Here too: over 97 % blocked in every single measurement.

Why the lab test matters so much to me

Hi there,

before Sunbarry existed, I spent a long time looking for a beautiful UV umbrella myself. Something struck me: many umbrellas are advertised with UV protection, but during my research I almost never got to see an independent test report.

So one thing was clear to me from the start: I have our fabrics tested independently in a lab, and I publish the results openly right here for you. You should be able to rely on the protection, not on an advertising promise.

Warm wishes
